The Blue & John Crow Mountains
Did you know? The Blue and John Crow Mountains is the first area in Jamaica to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List, for the outstanding universal value of its cultural and natural heritage. This year also makes 30 years since its designation as a National Park; the only one in Jamaica.

Why must we protect the Blue & John Crow Mountains?
1. Over half the flowering plants in the national park are found only in Jamaica and about one-third are endemic to the national park.
2. For most Jamaican land animals, the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park is their last refuge - a large area of natural forest where they are protected from human disturbance.
3. The rugged topography, lush forests and numerous water sources were used by the Windward Maroons to wage their successful guerrilla warfare against the British.
4. It provides essential ecosystem services such as carbon storage and water filtration, helping to combat climate change.

OUR MISSION

Our ongoing funding, which started in 2022 with the first declaration of National Park Week in Jamaica, includes free entry to Holywell Park. National Park Week Jamaica aims to increase awareness of and visitation to The Blue & John Crow Mountains National Park, as well as Jamaica’s other parks. Our National Park is a habitat for species that are either endangered or endemic to Jamaica and plays a crucial role in preserving the environment. This initiative aligns with the goals of the Esirom Foundation Limited to promote sustainable tourism and the conservation of the environment.
